I spent a lot of time thinking that I knew what I “should be” eating. But going back to the basics was really helpful for me to see what a balanced plate with nutrient dense foods should look and taste like. A wonderful resource is MyPlate (https://www.myplate.gov/ ). You can find recipes, planner worksheets, info graphics, general guidance and even an app for your phone with daily reminder opt-ins. One element that I found especially helpful was the plate graphic itself. The visual of the food pyramid never really became part of how I could think about an individual meal, but the plate is a different story all together. Check it out and let me know what you think!
Feeling High Energy
If I could have just one wish for myself, it would be to wake up every morning feeling rested and energized. But there are so many factors that go into that rested/energized feeling. This is a fun article by Nick Paumgarten in the New Yorker’s Dept. of Science that shares some of the reasons behind perceptions of natural high and low fuel. It also helps me remember that when I’m feeling fatigued, I’m not alone!
